Unfortunately, the US has always only had a slight majority when it comes to having a real conscience. That’s why Democrats have been “pragmatic” when trying to hang onto that slimmest of leads. This will only change when the electoral college is abolished, when the senate is truly representative of its constituencies, and when Citizens United is overturned. I really hope that we will see all of this progress in our lifetime. But the Republican Party is fighting tooth and nail to keep their minority relevance in tacked.
