One-On-Ones are crucial, especially during these times. But you have to tailor your meetings to the individual — one employee may want to talk about all business while another may want a mix of personal and business thrown in there. I always schedule an hour for my one-on-ones but it can go as short as 10–15 minutes, depending on the needs of my direct report. A manager’s biggest responsibility is her/his staff so make sure you allot them the time and attention they need.
