My Brother and I are Latino Men Who DID NOT VOTE for Trump

A lot of people are trying to dissect the presidential election that we just went through. Why didn’t more White women vote for Kamala, why did more young White males vote for Trump…The one that seems to be getting the most scrutiny is why did the majority of Latino men turnout for Trump this time around. As a long time Democrat, I am just as disappointed in this trend as any other liberal. But being a Latino man this one touches me personally.

My parents migrated here from Mexico and taught us to always be respectful, hardworking, just, and to have dignity, no matter under what circumstances. These are the core values that made me become a lifelong Democrat; even though Democrats recently seem to be chasing after the same money interests as the Republican base, instead of going after real votes. But they still embody my values much more than do modern day Republicans.

My brother is more socially conservative than I am. But we still share the morals our parents exemplified every single day. If they were around today, they would be shocked, saddened, and disappointed at the hateful behavior that got Trump elected. They always looked at American presidents as men of honor and dignity, Republican and Democrat alike.
