Vance's comment about hating Mexicans is just plain ignorant. It's not only Mexicans who cross the US's southern border. There are also many Americans of Mexican descent who refer to themselves as “Mexicans.” This is just hateful rhetoric. 77% of the publishing gatekeepers are White so they go with authors who they can relate to. Rupert Murdoch owns HarperCollins, so Vance’s philosophy aligns with his. It is very difficult for Latinos to get published by a big publishing house. I know this firsthand. Thank you for bringing light to this topic.
