Growing up in Chicago in the 1970s and 1980s I was a huge football fan, I loved Walter Payton and the Bears. But I was completely turned off by the White afficionados who also loved the Bears and Walter Payton but hated Black people in general. One minute they'd be praising an African American player and then turn around and say the vilest things about a regular Black person. After this revelation, I immediately stopped supporting the NFL in any way. Sadly, it seems that nothing at all has changed since then.
