It takes thought and trial and error to come up with impactful solutions. Many mid-level management personnel are happy to just get through day to day with the status quo. I’ve seen many solution-based managers get ignored or even replaced because they questioned long standing but unproductive processes.
When I worked at UPS many years ago, I supervised a diverse group of young workers, and a couple of the White employees made it be known that they weren't going to work hard for a Latino boss. I worked with them repeatedly, notified HR about my efforts, and got my manager involved. Low and behold they finally came around after their jobs were on the line because of their racist attitudes. Your and my experiences are very real scenarios that POC face in the workplace every day.
No more bosses! We should look at jobs as partnerships, where the work is shared as are the profits.
It's all about setting a strong foundation for success. The work you put in today will reap rewards tomorrow.
When will these companies realize that narcissistic managers only care for themselves and not for the betterment of the organization? They really are bad for the bottom line.
Every single job I've had has allowed me to add new skills to my resume. I've learned something of value from each one of them, and it didn't matter if I had a decent boss or a horrible one.
These CDO’s have no real power. I worked at a place recently, where the director of my department let go all the African American women on his team in one fell swoop during COVID layoffs. This firm had a CDO, but nothing was said or done about this racist mid-level boss’s unjust terminations. It’s all show for these corporations.
A decent manager would keep things in context and have her/his staff's well-being be a priority.
Promotions and performance reviews are subjective exercises and are at the whim of office politics. So don't believe them, rather, believe in yourself.
Office politics is horrible! But there are so many people who partake in it. I don't know how they sleep at night. We need to tackle it at every level.
